What is hair restoration?

Hair loss and baldness is a common concern that can have a lasting negative effect on your confidence and self-esteem. While hair loss is often considered a men’s issue, women can also experience hair loss.

Whether you have thinning hair or your hair loss has progressed to balding, Dr. Guy offers innovative hair restoration programs to restore your hair.

He uses innovative platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and specific creams and peptides, along with other formulations to address other health issues that contribute to hair loss.

This allows the body to stimulate healthy cellular regeneration in the hair follicles of your scalp to increase hair growth.

What causes hair loss?

You shed between 50-100 hairs every day, but your hair also goes through growth cycles to replace the hairs you shed. Hair loss is more rapid and severe. Your hair follicles either become inactive or aren’t able to produce new hairs quickly enough to replace those you’ve lost.

Many issues contribute to hair loss. While men and women can lose their hair, some of the factors that cause hair loss are different.

Hair loss risk factors for men include:

  • Genetics
  • Male hormones (aka androgens)
  • Anemia
  • Inflammation
  • Poor lifestyle patterns

Hair loss risk factors for women include:

  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Female pattern hair loss (FPHL)
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • Anemia
  • Traction alopecia
  • Autoimmune dysfunction

What should I expect during hair restoration treatments?

When you have a PRP hair restoration treatment, Dr. Guy begins by drawing a vial of your blood. He separates the solid blood cells from the plasma in a centrifuge and then combines your platelets and plasma.

When your serum is ready, he uses a Dermapen® to inject it directly into your hair follicles. The PRP triggers your natural hair growth process more rapidly and effectively than topical medication. There’s no downtime or scarring, which is common with hair transplants.

A peptide cream is provided to you if necessary to place on the scalp each day that allows for the hair to grow more optimally following the procedure.

In addition to the PRP treatments, Dr. Guy offers treatments to reduce testosterone conversion to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and androgen receptor binding to address one of the hormonal root causes of hair loss and reduce inflammation.

He also may recommend nutritional supplements to ensure your body has the vitamins and nutrients needed for healthy hair growth.

You may need a series of treatments to achieve optimal hair restoration results. Also, be patient with your hair growth. Your body needs time for the procedure to kick in and for your new growth to become noticeable.
