What is regenerative medicine?

Doctor Guy is at the forefront of regenerative medicine.  They use the most advanced techniques and medical solutions to enable the body to heal itself.

Avoid unnecessary surgery or suffering with regenerative medicine solutions that help people with knee, shoulder, hip, back and neck pain, injury and other health-related issues such as cognitive and neurological issues and PTSD.

Regenerative medicine is an innovative field of health care that triggers and stimulates your body’s natural ability to repair and heal itself. It has been around for 100 years but recently has been making much more traction with the public.

Many famous athletes — Tiger Woods, tennis star Rafael Nadal, and several others — have received this for various problems, such as sprained knees and chronic tendon injuries.

Dr. Guy has treated over 1000 patients with regenerative medicine and has found significant clinical success. He uses regenerative medicine to address a wide range of issues ranging from joint pain, arthritis, sports injury as well as hair loss and skin care issues. He offers platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections with prolotherapy.

PRP injections

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. This is a solution made directly from your blood, concentrated, and prepared to be re-injected into the area of damage.

Your plasma contains platelets, and by concentrating these platelets and removing them from the blood, higher concentrations of them can be achieved. Platelets contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important in the healing of injuries.

PRP is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in the blood. The concentration of platelets — and, thereby, the concentration of growth factors — can be 4 to 10 times greater (or richer) than usual.

When Dr. Guy injects PRP serum into your damaged tissue, it triggers your body to start healing the damaged tissue.  This can be injected anywhere there is arthritis, degenerative conditions, sports injuries, strains, sprains, tears, spurs, calcifications, and more.

It can also be used with microneedling to repair collagen damage, which is what causes fine lines and wrinkles on the face and contributes to hair loss. Therefore,  it can also address hair loss, facial acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is older than PRP and works wonderfully. It acts by stimulating tissue repair in your joints and ligaments. Ligament damage, much like a damaged rubber band, creates significant pain in and around joints.

With this solution, Dr. Guy injects a natural solution including dextrose, lidocaine, and saline into the damaged area, which triggers your body’s healing response and leads to the production of new tissue. As your joint heals, your pain subsides, and mobility improves.

What conditions benefit from regenerative medicine?

Dr. Guy uses regenerative medicine therapies like PRP injections and prolotherapy to address painful joint and soft tissue injuries, including:

  • Joint pain (knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, elbow, wrist, low back)
  • Arthritis
  • Sciatica
  • Sprains and unstable joints
  • Torn and sprain ligaments
  • Chronic joint pain
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Cartilage injuries
  • Overuse injuries
  • Tendonitis/tendinosis

Regenerative medicine treatments can help you recover from sports injuries, whiplash, and other musculoskeletal pain. Dr. Guy may also suggest regenerative medicine treatments to address migraines, hair loss, and facial rejuvenation from fine lines and wrinkles.

What should I expect during regenerative medicine treatments?

When you have a PRP treatment, Dr. Guy begins by drawing a vial of your blood. He separates the sample in a centrifuge and extracts a concentrated amount of platelets to create the PRP solution that has 5-10 times more platelets than a regular blood sample. He then injects your PRP into your damaged joint or tissue.

Prolotherapy is similar, but instead of creating this from your blood, he injects another solution into the injury.

Your body will need 5-7 days to start the repair of your joint or tissue. Over the following weeks, as your body continues the healing response, your pain should subside.

Depending on your condition, you may need a series of regenerative medicine treatments to achieve optimal results. Following a consultation and exam, Dr. Guy provides customized advice on how many treatments you may need.

If you have painful joints or soft tissue injuries, call Doctor Guy or make an appointment online today. They offer 15 minute free consultations to see if regenerative medicine is right for you.
